Follow Me
The invitation from Jesus is always follow me, and the decision to follow in his footsteps is not one to be taken lightly. Jesus makes this very clear right at the beginning of this Sundays gospel when he spells out the cost of being his disciple, if anyone comes to me without hating their father and mother, wife, children, brothers and sister and even his own life, they cannot be my disciple!’ This means that first we have to figure out what being a follower of Jesus will cost us, and then decide whether we have the energy and resources to meet that cost. The reward is priceless; the fullness of life which begins here and now and which we will inherit fully in the life to come. We begin this journey of being the disciple of Jesus in faith, but not on our own. The first reading from the Book of Wisdom tells that we are given the gift of wisdom and the Holy Spirit to guide and lead us on our journey. The challenge, then, is not to look at the cost, but to keep our eyes on Jesus who is walking with us showing us the way. In faith and hope, then, let us take up our cross and follow where Jesus lead us. www.oblates.ie
Sígueme
La invitación de Jesús siempre es: sígueme, y la decisión de seguir sus pasos no debe tomarse a la ligera. Jesús lo deja muy claro al principio del Evangelio de este domingo cuando explica el precio de ser su discípulo: «Si alguno viene a mí y no deja a su padre, a su madre, a su mujer, a sus hijos, a sus hermanos, a su hermana e incluso su propia vida, ¡no puede ser mi discípulo!». Esto significa que primero tenemos que determinar cuánto nos costará ser seguidores de Jesús y luego decidir si tenemos la energía y los recursos para afrontar ese precio. La recompensa no tiene precio: la plenitud de vida que comienza aquí y ahora y que heredaremos plenamente en la vida venidera. Comenzamos este camino de ser discípulos de Jesús con fe, pero no solos. La primera lectura del Libro de la Sabiduría nos dice que recibimos el don de la sabiduría y del Espíritu Santo para guiarnos en nuestro camino. El reto, entonces, no es mirar el precio, sino mantener la mirada puesta en Jesús, que camina con nosotros mostrándonos el camino.
