Joy to the World
Today, the third Sunday of Advent is called ‘Guadete Sunday’ which means ‘Joy’ or Rejoice’. The
opening antiphon for today’s liturgy asks us to Rejoice is the Lord always; again I say rejoice. Indeed the Lord is near. Today, on our Advent Wreath we light our pink candle to mark this day of joy. St. Paul’s advice and encouragement from the first reading today gives this third Sunday of Advent its traditional name Gaudete Sunday. Joy is the central message of our readings and prayers this Sunday, and indeed the whole of Advent and the celebration of Christ. We are called to wait for the birth of Jesus and we
are to wait in hope joyfully. As we wait, we are not to be afraid, anxious or worried; we are to wait in joyful hope. Why? Because, as the opening antiphon tells us, ‘The Lord is very near.’ May we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Alegría para el mundo
Hoy celebramos el tercer domingo de Adviento que se llama “Domingo de Guadete”, que significa “Alegría” o Regocijo. La antífona de apertura de la liturgia de hoy nos pide: Estar siempre alegres en el Señor; De nuevo digo regocíjense. De hecho, el Señor está cerca. Hoy, en nuestra Corona de Adviento, encendemos nuestra vela rosa para conmemorar este día de alegría. El consejo y el aliento de San Pablo en la primera lectura de hoy le dan a este tercer domingo de Adviento su nombre tradicional: Domingo de Gaudete. La alegría es el mensaje central de nuestras lecturas y oraciones de este domingo y, de hecho, de todo el Adviento y la celebración de Cristo. Estamos llamados a esperar el nacimiento de Jesús y debemos esperar con esperanza y alegría. Mientras esperamos, no debemos tener miedo, ansiedad o preocupación; debemos esperar con gozosa esperanza. ¿Por qué? Porque, como nos dice la antífona inicial, “El Señor está muy cerca”. Que esperemos con gozosa esperanza la venida de nuestro Salvador, Jesucristo.
