This Sunday, called Palm is the first day of Holy Week. Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday are called the Triduum, three days that are the highlight of the Church year. Throughout Luke’s Gospel we see that Jesus’ words and actions proclaim the Kingdom of God. This motif continues throughout Luke’s passion narrative. Jesus appears to be in total command of events at the Passover meal as he hands over the kingdom to his disciples. He welcomes them to the Passover meal announcing that this will be his last until the Kingdom of God is fulfilled. However, the disciples show little understanding of this kingdom that Jesus often announces.  In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus is portrayed as active and vocal throughout his passion. When Luke describes the Way of the Cross and Jesus’ crucifixion, he calls to our attention many events that are not reported in the other Gospels. Throughout Holy Week, we will continue to reflect on the events of Jesus’ passion and death. As we meditate on the cross, we ask again and anew what it means to make the statement of faith that Jesus, in his obedient suffering and dying, revealed himself to us as God’s Son and brought to fulfillment the Kingdom of God.
 

Este Domingo, llamado Domingo de Ramos es el primer día de la Semana Santa. El Jueves Santo, el Viernes Santo y la Vigilia Pascual del Sábado Santo se llaman Triduo, tres días que son el punto culminante del año litúrgico. A lo largo del Evangelio de Lucas, vemos que las palabras y las acciones de Jesús proclaman el Reino de Dios. Este motivo continúa a lo largo de la narración de la pasión de Lucas. Jesús parece tener el control total de los acontecimientos en la cena de Pascua cuando entrega el reino a sus discípulos. Les da la bienvenida a la cena de Pascua anunciando que esta será su última hasta que se cumpla el Reino de Dios. Sin embargo, los discípulos muestran poca comprensión de este reino que Jesús a menudo anuncia. En el Evangelio de Lucas, Jesús es retratado como activo y vocal a lo largo de su pasión. Cuando Lucas describe el Vía Crucis y la crucifixión de Jesús, llama nuestra atención sobre muchos eventos que no se relatan en los otros Evangelios. A lo largo de la Semana Santa, continuaremos reflexionando sobre los eventos de la pasión y muerte de Jesús. Al meditar sobre la cruz, nos preguntamos una y otra vez qué significa hacer la declaración de fe de que Jesús, en su sufrimiento y muerte obediente, se reveló a nosotros como Hijo de Dios y llevó a cumplimiento el Reino de Dios
