The Mystery of the Holy Trinity
Today’s feast invites us to live in the awareness of the presence of the Triune God within us: The Father,
the Son and the Holy Spirit. The mystery of the Holy Trinity, a doctrine enunciated by the ecumenical councils of Nicaea and Constantinople, is one of the fundamental doctrines of Christianity and the greatest mystery of our Faith, namely, that there are Three Divine Persons, sharing the same Divine nature in one God. “There is one God, who has three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each Person is God, yet there is still only one God” (CCC #234, #253-256). We have Father Who is the Creator, Son, the Redeemer and Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier and the Counselor. The doctrine of Three Persons in one God, equal in Divinity yet distinct in Person, is not explicitly spelt out in the Bible. All the official prayers of the Church, including the Holy Mass and the Sacraments, begin with an address to the Holy Trinity: “In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
El Misterio de la Santísima Trinidad
La fiesta de hoy nos invita a vivir conscientes de la presencia del Dios Uno y Trino en nosotros: el Padre,
el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo. El misterio de la Santísima Trinidad, doctrina enunciada por los concilios ecuménicos de Nicea y Constantinopla, es una de las doctrinas fundamentales del cristianismo y el mayor misterio de nuestra Fe, a saber, que hay Tres Personas Divinas, compartiendo la misma naturaleza Divina en Un dios. “Hay un solo Dios, que tiene tres Personas, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. Cada Persona es Dios, pero solo hay un solo Dios” (CIC #234, #253- 256). Tenemos al Padre que es Creador, Hijo, Redentor y Espíritu Santo, Santificador y Consejero. La doctrina de las Tres Personas en un Dios, iguales en Divinidad pero distintas en Persona, no se explica explícitamente en la Biblia. Todas las oraciones oficiales de la Iglesia, incluyendo la Santa Misa y los Sacramentos, comienzan con una dirección a la Santísima Trinidad: “En el Nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo”.
