What are You Yoked To?
Christ says: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Jesus is telling the truth. Compared to the burden of chasing after whatever our fickle hearts desire, his way is easy, his burden is light. We might be led on paths not otherwise encountered, some marvelous, some rocky and hard, but either way God remains with us. When we are yoked to God, it means God is yoked to us. We have the God of heaven and earth walking with us, and this changes everything. This means no matter what comes our way, we are not alone, and God’s love envelopes us and protects our spirit. Of course, being yoked to God only makes sense inside of God’s love, knowing and trusting that God’s will for us is nothing but love. And if our heart is packed with hurt or fear, it can take some effort to open it to such a powerful love. God doesn’t care if it takes a little, or even a lot of time. ¿A Qué Estás Uncido?
Cristo nos dice: «Tomen mi yugo sobre ustedes y aprendan de mí, porque soy manso y humilde de corazón; y encontrarán descanso para sus almas. Porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga ligera.» Jesús dice la verdad. Comparado con la pesada carga de perseguir todo aquello que nuestros corazones inconstantes desean, su camino es suave y su carga ligera. Él puede conducirnos por senderos que nunca hubiéramos imaginado: algunos llenos de maravillas y otros difíciles y pedregosos. Pero, en cualquier circunstancia, Dios permanece siempre con nosotros. Estar unidos al yugo de Dios significa que Dios también está unido a nosotros. Tenemos al Dios del cielo y de la tierra caminando a nuestro lado, y eso lo cambia todo. Significa que, pase lo que pase, nunca estamos solos. El amor de Dios nos envuelve y protege nuestro espíritu. Por supuesto, llevar el yugo de Dios solo tiene sentido cuando vivimos dentro de su amor, con la certeza y la confianza de que su voluntad para nosotros siempre nace del amor. Y si nuestro corazón está lleno de heridas o de miedo, puede requerir tiempo abrirse a un amor tan grande. A Dios no le importa si ese proceso toma poco o mucho tiempo. Él tiene toda la eternidad para esperarnos. Su invitación permanece siempre abierta: «Vengan a mí, y yo les daré descanso.» www.uscatholic.org
