Jesus Teaches in Parables

                In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers three parables to describe the Kingdom of Heaven. He also explains why he speaks to the crowds in parables and interprets the parable of the Sower for the  disciples. This reading is a continuation of Jesus’ discourse that we began reading last Sunday. All three parables use commonplace experiences to describe aspects of the Kingdom of Heaven.     Contained within these parables are words of caution as well as words of consolation. In the parable of the sower we are warned against judging others. To judge and uproot the “weeds” prematurely will harm the wheat; final judgment rests with God. In the parables of the mustard seed and the yeast, we are consoled by the message that God can work wonders and produce abundance from even the smallest beginnings of the Kingdom of Heaven.  www.loyolapress.com

 Jesús Enseña en Parábolas

                En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús ofrece tres parábolas para describir el Reino de los Cielos. También explica por qué habla a la multitud en parábolas e interpreta la parábola del sembrador para los discípulos. Esta lectura es una continuación del discurso de Jesús que comenzamos a leer el domingo pasado. Las tres parábolas usan experiencias comunes para describir aspectos del Reino de los Cielos. Dentro de estas parábolas hay palabras de advertencia así como palabras de consuelo. En la parábola del sembrador se nos advierte que no juzguemos a los demás. Juzgar y arrancar prematuramente la “cizaña” dañará al trigo; El juicio final recae en Dios. En las parábolas de la semilla de mostaza y la levadura, nos consuela el mensaje de que Dios puede hacer maravillas y producir abundancia incluso desde los comienzos más pequeños del Reino de los Cielos.  www.loyolapress.com
