The Good Shepherd
Today’s Gospel of that Good Shepherd reminds us of the four ways we live with these new spiritual genes. WE are those who hear and recognize his voice; He knows us; we have chosen to follow him. Hearing and following means being attentive to God’s word and teaching and responding in obedience. And he gives us an incredible gift and a victory: When we listen and follow he gives us eternal life. Not only through our baptism in which we were washed and made white in the blood of the Lamb, but through our participation in the life of the Church, we will share his resurrection. Death is not an end for us. Rather, it is a passage to a place prepared for us in heaven. But, even more, we believe that eternal life adds a quality, a fullness, a richness to our life even now. This is what we are given each time we receive communion as we will today – listen, then, to the prayers. St. Augustine teaches us how this is: because we were baptized in Christ, everything that happened to Jesus happens to us. The Risen Lord is close to us even now. Allow Him to be at work in you, going out to others with patience and love. It is he who brings us fullness of life and incredibly rich spiritual genes! www.augustinian.org
de hoy, el Buen Pastor, nos recuerda las cuatro formas en que vivimos con estos nuevos genes espirituales. Nosotros somos los que escuchamos y reconocemos su voz; Él nos conoce; Hemos elegido seguirlo. Escuchar y seguir significa estar atento a la palabra de Dios y enseñar y responder en obediencia. Y él nos da un regalo increíble y una victoria: cuando escuchamos y seguimos, él nos da vida eterna. No sólo a través de nuestro bautismo en el que fuimos lavados y emblanquecidos en la sangre del Cordero, sino a través de nuestra participación en la vida de la Iglesia, compartiremos su resurrección. La muerte no es un fin para nosotros. Más bien, es un pasaje a un lugar preparado para nosotros en el cielo. Pero, más aún, creemos que la vida eterna añade una cualidad, una plenitud, una riqueza a nuestra vida incluso ahora. Esto es lo que se nos da cada vez que recibimos la comunión como lo haremos hoy: escuchen, entonces, las oraciones. San Agustín nos enseña cómo es esto: porque fuimos bautizados en Cristo, todo lo que le pasó a Jesús nos sucede a nosotros. El Señor Resucitado está cerca de nosotros también ahora. Permítele obrar en ti, saliendo hacia los demás con paciencia y amor. ¡Es él quien nos trae plenitud de vida y genes espirituales increíblemente ricos!
