Our Lenten Journey
Our gospel this Sunday sees Jesus being led into the desert. The gospel puts it rather more seriously than Jesus being led into the desert! It opens with the words; The Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness (desert) and remained with him for forty days. Why was Jesus led or driven in to the desert? It is no surprise that we begin Lent with Jesus in the desert. Like his ancestors, he too is tried, tested and tempted. However, Jesus refused to give up or give in so quickly or so easily. He is tempted with the false gifts of power, prestige and wealth. His power and identity come from God. Jesus knows who he is, where he comes from and where he is going on his own journey. He leaves the desert with these powerful words which he offers us today; ‘The time has come; the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the Good News.’ What is this Good News that Jesus asks us to hear and believe? It is the good news that each of us is created, loved and forgiven by God. As we begin our own Lenten journey today, we need to recall and remember that we are not setting out on this journey on our own. God is with us walking by our side very step of way because God will never leave us alone. www.oblates.ie
Nuestro Viaje de Cuaresma
Nuestro evangelio de este domingo ve a Jesús siendo llevado al desierto. ¡El evangelio lo pone mucho más serio que el hecho de que Jesús fuera llevado al desierto! Comienza con las palabras: El Espíritu llevó a Jesús al desierto y permaneció con él durante cuarenta días. ¿Por qué Jesús fue conducido o conducido al desierto? No sorprende que comencemos la Cuaresma con Jesús en el desierto. Como sus antepasados, él también es probado, probado y tentado. Sin embargo, Jesús se negó a darse por vencido o ceder tan rápida o fácilmente. Es tentado con los falsos dones de poder, prestigio y riqueza. Su poder e identidad provienen de Dios. Jesús sabe quién es, de dónde viene y hacia dónde va en su propio camino. Deja el desierto con estas poderosas palabras que hoy nos ofrece; “Ha llegado el momento, el reino de Dios está cerca. Arrepiéntanse y crean en la Buena Nueva’. ¿Cuál es esta Buena Nueva que Jesús nos pide que escuchemos y creamos? Es la buena noticia de que cada uno de nosotros es creado, amado y perdonado por Dios. Al comenzar hoy nuestro propio viaje de Cuaresma, debemos recordar que no emprendemos este viaje solos. Dios está con nosotros caminando a nuestro lado cada paso del camino porque Dios nunca nos dejará solos.
