Images of God
What is your image of God? Jesus, the gentle shepherd? God in those first days of creation? Maybe at different times you pray to different images of God. There are days I sense the Spirit’s presence like the embrace of a lifelong friend and other times I tremble with awe and humility in my prayer! Our readings today offer different images of our Trinitarian God; they highlight three ways we experience God’s sacred presence. The Gospel offers the image of Jesus who beckons us to follow. John the Baptist points toward Jesus and says, “Behold the Lamb of God.” His disciples are slow to grasp what that means, but they ask, “Where are you staying?” Today readings are an invitation to begin anew in relating to God. Even if it takes time to recognize God’s voice, or we turn away in sin, or fail to think big enough about all God can be in the world, we are invited to relate to God who calls us to great things, the Spirit who dwells within, and Jesus Christ who invites us to transformation. Imágenes de Dios
¿Cuál es tu imagen de Dios? ¿Jesús, el gentil pastor? ¿Dios en esos primeros días de la creación? Quizás en diferentes momentos ores a diferentes imágenes de Dios. ¡Hay días que siento la presencia del Espíritu como el abrazo de un amigo de toda la vida y otras veces tiemblo de asombro y humildad en mi oración! Nuestras lecturas de hoy ofrecen diferentes imágenes de nuestro Dios Trinitario; Destacan tres formas en que experimentamos la presencia sagrada de Dios. El Evangelio ofrece la imagen de Jesús que nos invita a seguirlo. Juan el Bautista señala a Jesús y dice: “He aquí el Cordero de Dios”. Las lecturas de hoy son una invitación a comenzar de nuevo en nuestra relación con Dios. Incluso si toma tiempo reconocer la voz de Dios, o nos alejamos en el pecado, o no pensamos en lo suficientemente grande en todo lo que Dios puede ser en el mundo, estamos invitados a relacionarnos con Dios que nos llama a grandes cosas, el Espíritu que habita. en nuestro interior, y a Jesucristo que nos invita a la transformación. Que este año puedas comenzar de nuevo con el Dios que llama, el Espíritu que habita en ti y Jesucristo que te invita a seguirlo. www.uscatholic.org
