Pentecost Feast

                  Pentecost Sunday is one of the most important feasts of the Catholic Church, known as the “Birthday of the Church,” because it celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Virgin Mary fifty days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The word Pentecost means “fiftieth day.” Pentecost represents the fulfillment of Christ’s promise to send the Holy Spirit to guide, strengthen, and sanctify His Church. The Holy Spirit, the Third    Person of the Holy Trinity, gave the Apostles the courage to preach, the wisdom to teach, and the grace to continue the mission of the Church. In the same way, the Sacrament of Confirmation is our own personal Pentecost, where we receive and strengthen the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we may bear witness to Christ in the world. www.omvusa.org

Festividad de Pentecostes

El Domingo de Pentecostés es una de las fiestas más importantes del calendario litúrgico católico y también una de las más incomprendidas. Se le conoce como el “Nacimiento de la Iglesia” porque celebra la venida del Espíritu Santo sobre los Apóstoles y la Virgen María cincuenta días después de la Resurrección de Jesucristo. La palabra Pentecostés proviene del griego pentekostē, que significa “quincuagésimo día”. Para los cristianos, Pentecostés representa el cumplimiento de la promesa de Cristo de enviar al Espíritu Santo para guiar, fortalecer y santificar a su Iglesia. El Espíritu Santo no es solo una fuerza o un sentimiento, sino la Tercera Persona de la Santísima Trinidad, Señor y Dador de Vida. Su venida dio a los Apóstoles el valor para predicar, la sabiduría para enseñar y la gracia para continuar la misión de la Iglesia. El sacramento de la Confirmación es, en cierto sentido, nuestro propio Pentecostés personal: el fortalecimiento de los dones del Espíritu Santo en nosotros para salir y dar testimonio de Cristo en el mundo. www.omvusa.org
